*Clean Monday' (Kathari Deftera) is eight weeks before
Easter in February.


A - In my family, we start the day preparing the food in the morning.
B - We finish our pudding and before we leave the beach, we clean
up and my brother and I fly kites.
C - It celebrates the first day of spring. It's a public holiday in Greece.
Food is very important.
D- After that, we have halva for pudding.
E - All my friends come to the dance too. Kathari Deftera is a great
tradition! We love it!
F - Then we go to the beach with the food for a picnic.
G- Then, in the evening we go to the town square for
traditional music and dancing.
H - The picnic at the beach contains all the traditional food. On 'Clean Monday' we don't eat meat. We eat a special kind of bread, called lagana, with seafood dishes,
salads and olives.
